India’s Russian Oil Imports Drop to 25% in December (INDF)

India’s imports of Russian oil reached less than 25% of total imports in December 2025, the lowest in 38 months, according to data from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry. December Russian crude purchases totaled $2.71 billion, down from $3.72 billion in November and a 60.5% drop from December 2024. Volumes were 5.8 million tons, or about 1.39 million barrels per day, the lowest monthly total since February 2025. The decline follows U.S. sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil, which spurred a rise in U.S. crude purchases—December imports totaled 1.1 million tons valued at $569.3 million. India, which imports about 85% of its oil and is highly price-sensitive, continues to prioritize cost-effective, grade-compatible supplies, maintaining Russia as its top crude supplier despite Washington’s pressure.
