Tesla Inc. (TSLA) has ceased including its basic Autopilot driver-assistance system as standard equipment on new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles sold in the United States, effective January 23, 2026. The move is a direct strategy to increase adoption of its premium, subscription-based Full Self-Driving (FSD) package. The change applies to new orders. Customers must now purchase the FSD capability either as a $12,000 upfront option or via a monthly subscription. Tesla's standard Autopilot feature, which includes traffic-aware cruise control and lane steering, had been included for nearly a decade.
