United Airlines (UAL) reported robust business travel demand in early 2026, with corporate ticket sales up high-single digits year-over-year, driving a revised first-quarter earnings forecast of 37% growth. Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella described the trend as "pretty amazing" during a post-earnings call on January 22, 2026. The recovery in business travel is broadening across the industry, according to Frank Holmes of U.S. Global Investors, as companies resume in-person meetings. However, main cabin revenue remains weak, rising just 1% year-over-year while capacity increased 6%, exacerbating margin pressures. Premium cabin revenue rose 12% with 7% higher capacity. United and Delta Air Lines (DAL) shares have gained about 4% over the past year, underperforming the S&P 500, while American Airlines (AAL) declined nearly 20%. Nocella expects eventual reductions in unprofitable main cabin capacity, which would support future margin expansion.
