xAI announced layoffs as part of a restructuring to enhance operational efficiency, according to Elon Musk's post on X. The move follows Musk's announcement on Feb 11, 2026, that SpaceX plans to acquire xAI to create a $1.25 trillion company with a potential IPO later this year to fund data center initiatives in space. "xAI was reorganized a few days ago to improve speed of execution," Musk wrote, noting "unfortunately parting ways with some people" was necessary. Co-founders Tony Wu and Jimmy Ba resigned on Feb 10, 2026, adding to a departure of about half of the company's original 12 co-founders.
