American Airlines (AAL) on May 26, 2026 announced it will equip over 500 narrow-body Airbus jets with Starlink in-flight Wi-Fi, marking another major airline win for SpaceX’s satellite internet service. Deployment on A321neo and other models is set to begin early next year. The carrier evaluated rival low-Earth-orbit services from Amazon’s Project Kuiper before choosing Starlink. Delta Air Lines (DAL) has committed to Kuiper for a 2028 rollout, while United (UAL), Southwest (LUV), and Alaska Airlines (ALK) have already selected Starlink. American’s existing Boeing fleet will continue using Viasat and Panasonic Avionics for now. The deal reinforces Starlink’s aviation momentum and comes as SpaceX prepares for an initial public offering expected as soon as June 2026. SpaceX’s connectivity segment, primarily Starlink, posted $11.39 billion in revenue last year, accounting for 61% of total company revenue, according to IPO filings.
