Apple (AAPL) Foldable iPhone Projected To Lose Up To $1,300 In First Year
SellCell research projects Apple's (AAPL) anticipated first foldable iPhone, potentially priced around $2,000, could depreciate by up to $1,300 within its first year post-launch. Despite this significant value drop, the device is expected to retain more resale value than current Android foldable smartphones. The report, based on 12-month resale data for flagship phones from Apple, Samsung, and Google, indicates foldable phones average a 64.6% annual depreciation, significantly higher than traditional smartphones' 55.3%. If Apple's foldable follows this trend, its value could drop to $708 from a $2,000 initial price. However, Apple products historically demonstrate superior resale value. The iPhone 16 series, for example, maintained 51.5% of its value after one year, outperforming Samsung (39.5%), Google (40.8%), and OnePlus (46.8%). Applying this trend, Apple's foldable could retain approximately $1,030 of its value, a depreciation of about $970, which is over $300 less than competitor foldables. The device is rumored to launch in Fall 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 series.
