Apple Inc. (AAPL) plans to introduce an iPhone tool that automatically splits restaurant bills and sends payment requests via Apple Cash, Bloomberg reported on June 1, 2026, citing people familiar with the matter. The feature could be unveiled as early as the week of June 8 at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference and launch in iOS 27 this fall. Users will photograph a receipt, assign items to companions, and the system will calculate each person’s share, including tax and tip. Payment requests will then be sent through Apple Cash, integrated into the Wallet app or Messages, with approval possible on an Apple Watch. The move directly takes on bill-splitting apps like Splitwise and Tab, as well as payment platforms Venmo and Block’s Cash App. Apple has steadily expanded financial services since the 2014 launch of Apple Pay, adding a credit card, savings accounts, and Tap to Pay, though it discontinued its buy-now-pay-later service. The new tool targets younger users to boost Apple Cash adoption.
