Apple Confirms Face ID Bug Causing Random Restarts on iPhone 18 Pro Models
Apple (AAPL) confirmed a serious Face ID-related system flaw affecting the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, after users reported devices freezing during facial recognition and spontaneously rebooting. The bug triggers under specific conditions: unlocking in low light or at skewed angles, or authenticating payments and logins via third-party apps such as WeChat. The screen freezes, goes black, displays the Apple logo and performs a soft reboot, interrupting active tasks. Apple customer service said its engineering department is investigating and that a software update may resolve the issue. Separately, early users reported a "green ghosting" defect in photos and videos, most visible indoors, in warm or dim light, and when shooting at 2x or higher zoom or with the f/1.48 aperture. Apple has not commented on that issue.
