Samsung Display (SSD) Secures Apple (AAPL) Approval for Foldable Panel Mass Production
Samsung Display has reportedly secured Apple's (AAPL) approval to mass-produce foldable display modules, signaling the "iPhone Fold" project is advancing towards commercialization. The initial supply is estimated at 3 million panels, with market expectations for a late 2026 debut for Apple's first foldable smartphone. Sources indicate Samsung Display achieved over an 80% yield rate for foldable OLED panels prior to certification and has initiated production lines in Vietnam to fulfill the initial order. This approval suggests Apple's validation of Samsung Display's capability for large-scale foldable screen manufacturing. The panels are expected to incorporate Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology, which reduces thickness and enhances brightness and energy efficiency, along with the M16 OLED material set for improved performance and power savings. Samsung Display is anticipated to be the exclusive supplier for Apple's foldable OLED panels.
