a16z Launches Two-Year Academy Backed by Nvidia, OpenAI Executives

Andreessen Horowitz has launched the Horowitz Andreessen Academy (HAA), a two-year boarding school in San Francisco for students aged 16 to 22, with its first cohort entering in fall 2027. The school has raised $42 million from investors including Adam D'Angelo, Tobi Lütke, Tony Xu, Fidji Simo and Shyam Sankar, and is led by CEO Gagan Biyani, co-founder of Udemy and Maven. Instructors and partners include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Nvidia founder Jensen Huang, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Stripe co-founder Patrick Collison, AngelList founder Naval Ravikant, and World Labs founder Fei-Fei Li. HAA will not grant degrees but offers a curriculum built on three elements: year-round co-op placements, courses taught by unicorn founders and academics, and student projects with dedicated coaches. Founding partners include Anduril, Anthropic, Coinbase, Google, Meta, Nvidia, OpenAI, Palantir, Replit and Stripe. a16z partners said the goal is to compress the traditional eight-year pipeline from university to venture funding into two years, creating a stable source of early-stage deal flow.
