Artificial intelligence bots exceeded human traffic in global HTML web requests for the first time, marking a milestone in the digital economy. According to Cloudflare Radar data as of April 27, 2026, bots accounted for 57% of such traffic versus 43% for humans, a shift CEO Matthew Prince said arrived far earlier than his original 2027 forecast. Agentic AI systems, which autonomously browse websites to gather information, generate volumes far exceeding human activity—one purchase task can trigger thousands of site visits, Prince noted. Since late April, bot traffic has consistently ranged between 53% and 60% of HTML requests. Humans still represent about 65% of overall internet traffic when including video streaming, social media, maps and mobile apps, Cloudflare said. Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded "Wow" on X to Prince's post. The data underscores how agentic AI is rapidly restructuring online activity and server demand.
