HR chiefs at HPE, Palo Alto Networks say AI is dissolving org charts, forcing workforce to 'unlearn'
Chief people officers at Fortune 500 companies said AI adoption is dismantling traditional organizational structures, requiring employees to abandon established processes rather than retrofit AI into outdated workflows. Speaking at Fortune's inaugural AIQ Summit on Oct. 1, 2026, HPE EVP and Chief People Officer Stacy Dillow said the hardest challenge is rethinking how work is organized. ServiceNow data cited at the event shows only 9% of organizations have built complex autonomous workflows despite broad AI investment. Palo Alto Networks Chief People Officer Danielle Gonzalez said a custom AI agent cut IT tickets 83% and now manages HR, finance and legal workflows. The cybersecurity firm, ranked No. 49 on the Fortune AIQ 75, uses "observable interviews" and hackathons that test problem-solving with and without AI. Lennar CHRO Drew Holler said employees must take responsibility for upskilling themselves, adding that AI competence is now necessary "to survive."
