Bull Doubles Supercomputer Output at Angers Plant to Close Europe's AI Compute Gap
Bull, the French state-owned supercomputer maker, reopened an expanded factory in Angers, France, on October 1, 2026, doubling production capacity to 12 racks per month from six, with potential to reach 24 racks next year as Europe seeks to close its AI computing gap with the US and China. The €80 million expansion supports a €7 billion EU supercomputer program running from 2021 to 2027. CEO Emmanuel Le Roux said Bull has received record orders this year and won 15 of 18 tenders from EuroHPC, the EU funding body, competing against Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Airbus deployed Bull-built systems in Toulouse and Hamburg under a five-year deal worth nearly €100 million. France purchased Bull from Atos on March 31, 2026, valuing it at up to €404 million. Bull built JUPITER, Europe's first exascale machine, now operating in Germany. The company also partners with Foxconn <2317.TW> to manufacture Nvidia NVL systems in the Czech Republic.
