Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) closed above a $1 trillion market capitalization for the first time on Monday, September 21, 2026, as its stock jumped about 10% to more than $615. The gain, based on the 1.6 billion shares outstanding reported in its August regulatory filing, lifted the chipmaker past the trillion-dollar threshold. The rally came as tech stocks broadly advanced, with the Nasdaq Composite rising over 2% to outperform the S&P 500 and Dow Industrials. Intel (INTC) climbed about 12%, Meta Platforms (META) added roughly 11%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL) gained more than 5%. AMD has been a major beneficiary of the AI infrastructure buildout. The company's most recent quarterly results, reported in early August, beat analyst estimates, and its shares are up almost 290% year to date. Nvidia (NVDA) remains the sector's largest company at more than $5 trillion.
