Amazon (AMZN) Names Amwell (AMWL) Co-Founder Roy Schoenberg to Lead Health Services Unit
Amazon (AMZN) said on May 27, 2026 that it appointed Roy Schoenberg, co-founder and former CEO of telehealth firm Amwell (AMWL), to head its Amazon Health Services division, effective July 1. Schoenberg succeeds Neil Lindsay, who will remain as an adviser through year-end. The leadership change reflects the tech giant’s push to accelerate virtual care and AI-driven medical integration. AHS oversees Amazon Pharmacy and primary-care chain One Medical, acquired for $3.9 billion in 2023. Schoenberg brings clinical and telehealth expertise, filling a gap left by Lindsay, who had no medical background and previously led Prime and global marketing. Amazon has seen a series of health-executive departures, including One Medical’s CEO in early 2025. Despite heavy investment, the unit faces regulatory, privacy and profitability hurdles as retailers like Walmart (WMT) and CVS Health (CVS) also expand into integrated care.
