Amazon Asks Meta to Remove It From Muse AI Shopping Agent, Citing Unauthorized Access

Amazon said it asked Meta to remove its e-commerce site from Muse, Meta's new AI shopping agent, after being given no advance notice and no authorization. The agent, launched earlier in September 2026, can make purchases on users' behalf. "We think it's fairly straightforward that third-party applications that offer to make purchases on behalf of customers from other businesses should operate openly and respect service provider decisions about whether or not to participate," an Amazon spokesperson said. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Muse processes purchases through Link by Stripe, which offers protections including coverage for damaged or lost items and no-fee returns. The dispute follows Amazon's 2025 lawsuit against Perplexity over its Comet AI agent shopping on Amazon's site. In August, a U.S. appeals court overturned a temporary ruling that had barred Perplexity's shopping tools from the site.
