Amazon Blocks Meta's Muse AI Agent From Making Purchases on Its Site

Amazon has blocked Meta's Muse AI agent from completing purchases on its platform, escalating a dispute over control of AI-mediated shopping. By the evening of September 20, 2026, Amazon displayed a popup stating continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates its Conditions of Use. Amazon said it asked Meta to exclude its site from Muse's scope, arguing third-party agents that purchase on customers' behalf must respect service provider decisions. It claims Muse conceals its identity, collects and retains customer credentials, and accesses account pages and order history without consent. Meta launched Muse earlier in September as a personal AI agent that sends emails, books travel, fills forms and makes purchases, using Stripe's Link for single-use card numbers. Meta says Muse cannot see passwords or payment methods. The clash is complicated by their partnership: Amazon goods have been shoppable on Facebook and Instagram since 2023, and Meta agreed in April 2026 to run AI workloads on Amazon's cloud. Amazon has previously targeted AI agents from Perplexity, Google and OpenAI.
