Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) was sued May 15, 2026, by consumers seeking refunds for alleged price increases tied to tariffs later invalidated by the U.S. Supreme Court. The proposed class action, filed in federal court in Seattle, claims Amazon collected hundreds of millions of dollars from customers by raising prices on imported goods subject to tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The Supreme Court ruled in February 2026, in a 6-3 decision, that President Donald Trump exceeded his authority in imposing the tariffs. The complaint alleges Amazon has not sought refunds from the government despite other companies pursuing billions of dollars after the ruling. It claims the company withheld action to maintain favor with the Trump administration and asserts unjust enrichment and violations of Washington state consumer-protection law. Amazon did not respond to a request for comment. Similar consumer cases have targeted Costco, Nike and FedEx over alleged failures to pass tariff-related refunds to customers.
