Amazon Signs 20-Year Nuclear Power Deal With Constellation Energy
Amazon signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Constellation Energy on Wednesday, October 1, 2026, backing a $3 billion expansion of Maryland's only nuclear plant. Amazon will receive 690 megawatts from the 1,790-megawatt Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Lusby. The deal finances roughly 190 megawatts of additional clean generating capacity, set to enter service between 2030 and 2032. A separate retail supply arrangement covers Amazon's electricity needs across the 13-state PJM regional market. Constellation said the contract supports relicensing of its two reactors, up for review in 2034 and 2036. Calvert Cliffs supplies about 80% of Maryland's clean energy and enough power for over 1.3 million homes. It is Amazon's first agreement to fund an uprate project. Amazon abandoned plans for an adjacent data-center campus last month after community opposition.
