Aura Biosciences (AURA) announced on June 2, 2026, it has completed patient enrollment in its pivotal Phase 3 CoMpass clinical trial evaluating Bel-sar for the first-line treatment of early-stage choroidal melanoma, a rare eye cancer. The company expects to report top-line data in the first half of 2027. The CoMpass trial is a randomized, sham-controlled study designed to assess the safety and efficacy of Bel-sar, a light-activated therapy. The study enrolled patients across leading ocular oncology centers globally. The primary endpoint focuses on tumor control and vision preservation, a significant unmet need in current treatments involving radiation. Aura is developing Bel-sar as a potential vision-sparing alternative to conventional plaque radiotherapy. The therapy uses a virus-like particle conjugate to bind cancer cells, activated by an ophthalmic laser. Completion of enrollment marks a critical milestone toward a potential biologics license application submission.
