Broadcom Says Anthropic to Become Largest Custom AI Chip Customer by 2027
Broadcom (AVGO) said on its fiscal Q3 earnings call that Anthropic is expected to become its largest custom AI accelerator (XPU) customer in 2027 and hold that position through 2028, ending the company's long-standing single-customer dependence on Alphabet (GOOGL). Broadcom plans to deploy 1 gigawatt of Ironwood capacity for Anthropic in 2026, followed by 5 GW based on TPU version 8i in 2027, with a path toward another 10 GW in 2028. CEO Hock Tan said Anthropic is "well on its way to an IPO," which could alter its credit standing and financing of the buildout. Q3 AI semiconductor revenue rose 54% sequentially and 221% year-over-year to $16.7 billion, or 56% of total revenue. Broadcom guided Q4 AI revenue to $21.7 billion and targets $58 billion for fiscal 2026, $115 billion for fiscal 2027 and $230 billion for fiscal 2028 across six XPU customers including OpenAI and Meta (META).
