China Advances on 200-Jet Boeing Order Ahead of Trump-Xi Meeting

China is making progress on its May commitment to purchase 200 Boeing jets, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on September 21, 2026, though he signaled no new orders are imminent ahead of President Donald Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping this week. About 140 aircraft are "in a good state," with an additional 10 orders being finalized, Greer told Fox News. The deal marked Boeing's first major Chinese order in nearly a decade. In May, Trump said China could expand its Boeing order to as many as 750 planes. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg downplayed expectations of a fresh order around the Trump-Xi talks, saying at an investor conference that future orders will be announced by airlines "at their pace." He previously described the 200-jet commitment as only an "initial tranche" of a potentially larger deal.
