U.S. President Donald Trump said on May 14, 2026, that Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to buy 200 Boeing Co. aircraft, a potential breakthrough for Boeing’s (BA) efforts to regain major orders in China after nearly a decade. Trump made the comments in an interview excerpt aired by Fox News, saying Boeing had sought an order for 150 aircraft but secured 200. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier told CNBC that a large Boeing order was expected during Trump’s China visit. Trump did not specify aircraft models. Analysts had expected a possible order including Boeing’s 737 Max jets, while Jefferies had previously estimated China could announce purchases of as many as 500 aircraft. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg traveled with the U.S. delegation and had recently described the summit as a potentially significant opportunity. Boeing shares fell more than 4% intraday on May 14 as investors awaited confirmation from the White House, China or Boeing.
