Alibaba to Launch Cloud Regions in Turkey, Finland, Netherlands in Global AI Push

Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. will establish its first cloud regions in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands over the next 12 months, the company announced Wednesday at its Apsara conference in Hangzhou. The Chinese e-commerce giant is also expanding data center operations in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France and Hong Kong. The move advances Alibaba's plan to build a 20-gigawatt global data center network by 2032, which Citigroup estimates could generate more than $160 billion in external cloud revenue. The company unveiled new AI chips it claims are China's most powerful, designed for frontier-model training, and said it is developing foundation models with 5 trillion to 10 trillion parameters. Alibaba outlined a $53 billion, three-year AI investment plan in 2025 and has indicated capital spending will continue rising. The expansion puts it in direct competition with Amazon and Alphabet in markets beyond Asia.
