Regional Banks Q1: HOPE, BKU Miss Revenue; UMBF, PNFP Beat Amid Mixed Sector Performance

Regional bank stocks reported mixed first-quarter 2026 results, with Hope Bancorp (NASDAQ:HOPE) and BankUnited (NYSE:BKU) missing revenue estimates, while UMB Financial (NASDAQ:UMBF) and Pinnacle Financial Partners (NASDAQ:PNFP) exceeded expectations. The sector’s average share price declined 2.1% since the start of earnings season. Hope Bancorp’s revenue rose 21.2% year-over-year to $139.9 million but came in 2.8% below consensus, sending shares down 3.3% to $12.23. BankUnited’s $273.8 million, up 6.1%, missed by 5.1%, and the stock fell 2.1% to $45.81. UMB Financial delivered a 5.4% beat with revenue of $744.8 million, up 29.3%, pushing the stock 2.3% higher to $128.18. Pinnacle Financial’s revenue more than doubled to $1.23 billion, topping forecasts by 1.7%, though shares were flat at $95.53. Fifth Third Bancorp (NASDAQ:FITB) met estimates at $2.86 billion, up 32.2%, but its stock slipped 2.3%. Across the 91-bank group, aggregate revenues aligned with analyst forecasts, but deposit costs and commercial real estate exposure remained key headwinds.
