Bitcoin climbed to an eight-month high of $85,222 on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, advancing as much as 5.1% before settling at $85,117, a 4.7% gain. The token has risen more than 30% since Aug. 19, 2026, and added nearly 6% last week alone. Three factors drove the move, according to Zaye Capital Markets analyst Naeem Aslam: accelerating ETF inflows, favorable regulatory signals, and short covering. On Deribit, call contracts outnumbered puts 272,000 to 154,000, signaling bullish positioning. Total crypto market capitalization reached $2.8 trillion, its highest since late January 2026, FxPro's Alex Kuptsikevich said. Falling oil prices and optimism ahead of a planned Thursday summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping lifted risk assets broadly. Ether rose 4.3% to $2,747; XRP, Solana, and Monero also gained. Bitcoin remains well below its mid-January 2026 level above $97,000 and its October all-time record. Last week it absorbed the failure of the Clarity Act and the Federal Reserve's first rate hike in over three years.
