Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Move $161M in Two Weeks, Extending 2026 Revival Trend

Four long-dormant Bitcoin wallets transferred a combined 1,971.03 BTC, worth about $161 million, between Sept. 6 and Sept. 22, according to Galaxy Research blockchain monitoring. The largest, holding 1,260.78 BTC valued at roughly $100.63 million, had been untouched since July 2016, implying a gain of about 12,122% on a cost basis near $652. Another 600 BTC, worth about $51.9 million, moved early Tuesday after sitting idle since July 2012 — a 14.2-year dormancy. Older coins posted steeper percentage gains. A wallet dormant since March 2011 moved 10.25 BTC worth about $792,000, up over 8.38 million percent. Another 100 BTC, idle since November 2011 and worth about $8.09 million, gained roughly 2.49 million percent. Three of the four wallets carried a "Noah Doe" sender tag tied to a New York lawsuit seeking to declare thousands of dormant Bitcoin addresses abandoned property. Named wallets in that case have stirred regularly since a judge paused proceedings in June.
