BYD September Exports Jump 153.9% as China Demand Stalls
BYD reported September sales of 463,561 vehicles on Thursday, up 17% year-on-year, with exports of passenger vehicles and pickups climbing 153.9% to 179,877 units, Reuters said. Overseas shipments accounted for just under 40% of the monthly total. Nine-month cumulative volume reached 3,131,576 vehicles, including 1,337,831 overseas — still 4% below the comparable 2025 period and far short of BYD's 5 million to 5.5 million full-year target. Domestic sales kept declining amid reduced government EV incentives and a persistent real-estate downturn, Bloomberg reported. BYD's second-quarter net profit rose 30% year-on-year to 8.2 billion yuan ($1.22 billion), driven by overseas shipments. The company plans three European assembly plants plus a battery facility, with Hungarian production due to start in November-December to avoid the EU's roughly 27% BEV duty. BYD targets overseas shipments above 2.5 million vehicles in 2027.
