Citi Becomes First Bank Live on Multiple Markets via Swift Instant Payments
Citigroup Inc. (C) announced on September 29, 2026, that it will become the first bank to go live with multiple markets on the Swift Payments scheme, enabling cross-border instant payments through a single account via its Global Clearing network and WorldLink Payment Services. The solution eliminates the need for separate local banking relationships, bilateral agreements and local technical infrastructure. Citi has enabled real-time payments through Swift using ISO 20022 capabilities, including AUD via Australia's NPP, GBP via the Faster Payments System and INR via India's IMPS. Clients gain access to nine instant payment networks and near-real-time wires across 20 currencies and 54 markets through one relationship. The bank plans to expand the service to additional currencies and markets. Citi shares traded down 0.63 percent at $130.49 on the NYSE.
