CAC 40 Edges Higher on Monday, Supported by Luxury and Energy Sectors
The CAC 40 closed modestly higher on Monday, June 5, 2026, extending its recent consolidation near record levels. The Paris benchmark index added 0.2% to 7,420.15, with gains in luxury goods and energy shares offsetting weakness in banking stocks. LVMH and Hermes International both rose about 1%, while TotalEnergies advanced 0.8%, tracking a rebound in crude oil prices. Sentiment was aided by a better-than-expected eurozone retail sales report for April, which rose 0.3% month-over-month, easing some concerns about consumer spending. European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos reiterated that interest rates would stay restrictive for as long as needed, but market expectations for a September rate cut were little changed. The Stoxx Europe 600 also finished fractionally higher. The CAC 40 is now up 8% year-to-date.
