Cal-Maine Foods Swings to Q1 Loss as Sales Plunge; Shares Fall 6.5% Pre-Market

Cal-Maine Foods Inc. (CALM) reported a fiscal 2027 first-quarter net loss of $58.6 million, or $1.26 per share, reversing a year-earlier profit of $199.3 million, or $4.12 per share. Shares fell 6.45% to $64.13 in pre-market Nasdaq trading on September 30, 2026. Net sales for the quarter ended August 29 fell to $539.6 million from $922.6 million a year earlier. The company posted an operating loss of $82.2 million, compared with operating profit of $249.2 million last year. Conventional shell egg segment sales dropped to $201.7 million from $498.4 million, reflecting sharply lower egg prices and demand normalization after prior-year market disruptions.
