CenterPoint closes $2.62B sale of Ohio gas utility to National Fuel Gas
CenterPoint Energy (CNP) completed the $2.62 billion sale of its Ohio natural gas utility to National Fuel Gas Company (NFG), the Texas-based utility said on Oct. 1, 2026, advancing its plan to focus capital on core regulated operations. The deal covers Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, including about 5,900 miles of gas transmission and distribution pipelines serving roughly 335,000 metered customers in West Central Ohio. National Fuel Gas assumes service responsibility after federal and state approvals, including a Public Utilities Commission of Ohio review. CenterPoint will use proceeds to help fund a $66.7 billion, 10-year capital program targeting electric and gas infrastructure, prioritizing reliability and demand growth. The divestiture trims its footprint to Texas, Indiana and Minnesota, serving nearly 7 million metered customers. CenterPoint reported about $48.3 billion in assets as of June 30, 2026, and roughly 8,800 employees.
