Colombia’s coffee production surged 29% year-on-year in May to 1.05 million 60-kilogram bags, halting seven straight monthly declines, the National Coffee Growers Federation reported on June 5, 2026. The rebound from 819,000 bags a year earlier reflected improved rainfall in key growing areas that had previously delayed cherry maturation. Despite the harvest recovery, exports in May slipped 2% to 894,000 bags from 912,000 in the same month last year. Year-to-date figures remain weak. Between January and May, output fell 19% to 4.27 million bags, while exports dropped 22% to 4.15 million bags. Over the past 12 months, production declined 14% to 12.6 million bags, with exports down 7% to 11.9 million bags. Federation manager Germán Bahamón said the first-half harvest slowdown stemmed from prolonged rains that disrupted ripening. Colombia is the world’s largest supplier of washed arabica beans and the third-largest coffee producer globally.
