Cogent Biosciences (NASDAQ: COGT) announced June 1, 2026, that its investigational drug bezuclastinib combined with sunitinib doubled progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), sending shares up roughly 18% in early trading. Median PFS reached 12.5 months for the regimen versus 6.1 months for sunitinib alone, a hazard ratio of 0.49 in the Phase 3 APOLLO-1 trial. The study enrolled previously treated GIST patients, a market with limited options. “These results establish a potential new standard of care,” said CEO Andrew Robbins. Cogent plans to submit a New Drug Application to the FDA by year‑end. The tyrosine kinase inhibitor bezuclastinib could capture a significant share of the GIST market, estimated at over $1 billion annually.
