Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited (CP) was served with a 72-hour strike notice by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) on May 28, 2026, setting the stage for a possible walkout at 12:01 a.m. on June 1. The union represents approximately 460 electrical workers. The notice is the second major labor threat to the railroad in recent weeks. The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, which represents 3,300 conductors and engineers, suspended a similar strike deadline but has yet to ratify a tentative agreement. Both unions are in mediated contract negotiations with CPKC. A stoppage would disrupt freight operations across Canada and the U.S. Midwest, adding pressure to supply chains already bracing for potential disruptions. CPKC stated it remains committed to reaching negotiated settlements.
