DoorDash Launches Drone Delivery in Northern California with Chipotle, Popeyes

DoorDash (DASH) announced on October 1, 2026, that it will launch drone delivery service in Northern California, partnering initially with Chipotle and Popeyes. The company said deliveries could reach customers within five minutes under ideal conditions. The drones, equipped with six propellers, generate noise levels comparable to a moving car. DoorDash will deploy a new delivery management system that factors in traffic, weather and flight time to determine which orders are best suited for aerial delivery. Separately, DoorDash introduced app-free ordering for iPhone users in the U.S., allowing customers to place delivery requests directly through Apple's Messages app without downloading the DoorDash application or visiting its website.
