Dell (DELL) Wins $9.7 Billion Pentagon Contract for Microsoft (MSFT) Software Services
The Pentagon awarded Dell Technologies a five-year, $9.7 billion contract to supply Microsoft software and cloud services to U.S. military and intelligence agencies, the Department of Defense announced on May 27, 2026. The Microsoft Warfighter Enterprise Software Agreement II covers Microsoft 365, advanced cloud subscriptions, and on-premise licenses for the Defense Department, intelligence community, and Coast Guard. Dell’s Federal Systems unit secured the deal in a competitive bidding process. Consolidating these purchases on a single platform is projected to save about $422 million annually by eliminating redundant IT budgets, officials said. The contract highlights Dell’s strengthening ties with the Trump administration. Founder Michael Dell committed $6.25 billion to fund a children’s investment account program endorsed by President Trump, who has publicly urged consumers to buy Dell products. Dell also serves on Trump’s presidential technology advisory council. Analysts see the deal as an extension of Dell’s long-standing Microsoft partnership into the defense sector, reinforcing big tech’s deepening role in federal IT infrastructure.
