Dell Launches New XPS 13 to Challenge Apple's MacBook Neo, Touts Superior Specs
Dell Technologies (DELL) unveiled a redesigned XPS 13 laptop on June 1, 2026, directly targeting Apple’s (AAPL) popular MacBook Neo ahead of the back-to-school season. The new XPS 13 starts at $699, with a $599 student price, compared to the MacBook Neo’s $599 retail and $499 education pricing. Dell’s base model includes 512GB storage—matching the $699 Touch ID-equipped MacBook Neo—and is thinner and lighter at 2.2 pounds versus 2.7 pounds. The XPS 13 offers configurable memory up to 32GB, a 120Hz display, and Wi-Fi 7, while the MacBook Neo locks in 8GB of unified memory. Dell COO Jeff Clarke acknowledged the Neo as a “good product” but said Dell built a better one. Trade-offs include the removal of the headphone jack. Separately, Acer (2353-TW) last week launched the Swift Air 14, also at $699 with Thunderbolt 4, expanding connectivity. Apple CEO Tim Cook said MacBook Neo demand has “exceeded expectations.”
