DHL eCommerce Inks $10 Billion-Plus Last-Mile Delivery Deal with U.S. Postal Service
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) and DHL eCommerce on May 29, 2026, announced a multi-year contract valued at more than $10 billion for last-mile parcel delivery, a move that bolsters the postal agency’s revenue-focused turnaround strategy. The deal, described as the longest and most scalable in the 25-year partnership, provides DHL with long-term predictability for its U.S. expansion as e-commerce volumes grow. DHL eCommerce specializes in cross-border and domestic B2C shipping, handing pre-sorted containers to the USPS after managing nationwide pickup, sortation, and linehaul. The agreement increases DHL's ability to handle heavier packages. The contract supports Postmaster General David Steiner’s strategy to grow revenue following a $9.5 billion net loss in fiscal year 2025. Steiner noted the agreement reflects insights from a recent last-mile auction designed to validate the network’s value and create flexible pricing. “We are going to tailor our network to the needs of our customers,” Steiner said. The deal follows Amazon’s early April agreement to retain the USPS for final delivery, though at a 20% lower annual volume.
