Canada's energy sector has recorded over $30 billion in mergers and acquisitions so far in 2026, with analysts projecting the full-year tally will exceed the $53 billion logged in 2017, the largest wave in a decade. The current cycle is driven by elevated oil and asset prices against the backdrop of Middle East conflict rather than distressed asset sales, said Raj Singh, CEO of Calgary-based Fuelled Inc. "We've seen a lot of clients merging from positions of strength," Singh told the Financial Post. Shell Plc (NYSE:SHEL) agreed to acquire Arc Resources for $16.4 billion, adding 370,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and lifting projected annual output growth from 1% to roughly 4% through 2030. Tamarack Valley Energy (OTCPK:TNEYF) and Headwater Exploration (OTCPK:CDDRF) announced an all-stock merger valued at C$10 billion ($7.25 billion). Carlyle formed Avenrock Energy to acquire Calgary-based Parallax Energy Operating Inc., a deal analysts value near $1 billion.
