FedEx (FDX) Invests $54M in Netherlands Hub to Boost Premium Air Cargo Strategy
FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) is investing $54 million to expand its Duiven, Netherlands trucking hub, a move designed to strengthen its European road network and support the company’s push into premium international air freight. The facility expansion, announced in late May 2026, will increase palletized freight handling capacity by more than 50% and add 65 dock doors, bringing total docking spaces to 265. The investment follows FedEx’s recent reorganization of its air network into express parcel and deferred freight segments, allowing the company to offer a truck-fly-truck model for heavy, time-sensitive cargo. The European road network is critical to this strategy, efficiently moving intercontinental air freight across the region. Safia Ladhari, managing director of network operations at FedEx, said the integrated model is a “defining element” of its competitive freight services. FedEx has targeted the $90 billion deferred air cargo market, with a focus on the $22 billion premium segment, where it currently holds a 12% share. The Duiven hub has seen strong volume growth, particularly during peak periods, and the expansion aims to support continued customer demand.
