Fulcrum Therapeutics (FULC) Plunges After Halting Pociredir Program for Sickle Cell Disease
Shares of Fulcrum Therapeutics Inc. (FULC) tumbled over 40% in premarket trading on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, after the biotech company announced it would discontinue development of its sickle cell disease drug pociredir. The decision followed a safety review that identified an imbalance of serious adverse events in the Phase 2 trial. An independent data monitoring committee flagged a higher rate of stroke and other vascular events among patients receiving pociredir compared to placebo. Fulcrum said it will terminate the study and shift resources to its early-stage pipeline, including a treatment for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. As of March 31, 2026, the company reported $215 million in cash and equivalents, which it expects to fund operations into 2028.
