GE Vernova (GEV) denied bid to end Vineyard Wind work amid payment dispute
A Massachusetts judge on June 1, 2026, refused to lift an order forcing GE Vernova to continue work on the $4.5 billion Vineyard Wind offshore project, blocking the company's push to exit the contract. Judge Peter Krupp ruled that the project remains dependent on GE Vernova's expertise and that allowing the company to walk away would threaten financing. GE Vernova sent a termination notice after Vineyard Wind, a joint venture between Iberdrola and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, withheld $360 million in payments. The developer claims it is entitled to do so after a 2024 turbine blade failure caused widespread delays and required blade replacements. Vineyard Wind argues GE's withdrawal would jeopardize the 806-megawatt project's commercial viability. GE Vernova said it had a contractual right to terminate for non-payment and looks forward to next steps. The wind farm off Martha's Vineyard began initial operations in February 2026.
