Google (GOOGL) is developing an enhanced AI inference chip, codenamed "Triggerfish," based on its TPU v9 "Humufish" design, with MediaTek (2454.TW) securing exclusive manufacturing orders. The new chip aims to upgrade AI inference capabilities and mitigate "CPU wall" and "memory wall" bottlenecks, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on June 22, 2026. Triggerfish will feature 2-3 times larger on-chip SRAM cache and upgrade off-chip DRAM to HBM4E from HBM4. It also includes a new simulation die for local TPU management and reinforcement learning. Production is slated for late 2027, with volume shipments beginning in late 2028. Lifetime shipments are projected at 1-2 million units, with a unit price approximately 30% higher than Humufish, positioning it as a significant revenue driver for MediaTek by 2028.
