Google launches Googlebook laptop line built around Gemini AI
Alphabet’s Google (GOOGL) announced Googlebook, a new laptop line designed around its Gemini artificial intelligence system, as the company seeks to reposition notebooks for AI-driven workflows. Googlebook combines Android and ChromeOS, bringing Google Play apps, Chrome browser integration and closer links with Android phones. New features include Magic Pointer, developed with Google DeepMind, which activates Gemini when users move the cursor over on-screen content to suggest actions such as creating calendar events or previewing product combinations. The devices also include Create Your Widget, which uses prompts to generate desktop widgets drawing on Gmail, Calendar and other Google services. Quick Access allows users to search and open files stored on Android phones from the laptop file manager without transferring them. Google said Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo will produce the first Googlebook devices, which will come in multiple sizes and designs with a light strip called glowbar.
