Google (GOOGL) launched Gemini Intelligence at the 2026 Android Show on May 13, 2026, positioning Android as an “intelligent system” that can automate tasks across apps and devices. The update marks a broader push to make Gemini a proactive AI agent rather than a chatbot-style assistant. The system can read screen content, execute multi-step tasks and assist with actions such as adding textbooks from Gmail syllabi to shopping carts or planning trips through Expedia. Google said user confirmation will be required for transactions. New features include Rambler voice cleanup, natural-language widget creation, Gemini tools in Chrome and expanded autofill across mobile apps. Google also introduced Googlebook, a Gemini-focused laptop developed with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo, and said Android Auto, which has 250 million users, will receive its biggest update in a decade. Gemini Intelligence will arrive first on Samsung and Pixel phones in summer 2026, then expand to watches, cars, glasses and laptops later in 2026. Analysts view the rollout as a response to Apple’s (AAPL) Apple Intelligence strategy.
