Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Monday, June 22, 2026, denied market rumors that Google is evaluating procuring memory chips from Chinese manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT). The speculation suggested Google sought to reduce costs amid rising supply pressures from the AI boom. Kuo stated his latest industry survey indicates Google "currently has no clear plans to procure memory chips from CXMT." The denial follows a Wall Street Journal report that Google was researching CXMT DRAM feasibility to diversify its supply chain, traditionally dominated by Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. Other PC brands, including ASUS (2357-TW), Acer (2353-TW), Dell (DELL-US), and HP (HPQ-US), are reportedly also discussing integrating CXMT products. This interest stems from the AI boom driving demand for DRAM and HBM, leading to supply tightness and higher costs from major global suppliers. CXMT aims to increase monthly wafer production to 300,000 by year-end 2026 but faces geopolitical challenges, including U.S. restrictions on Chinese semiconductor companies.
