Goldman Sachs (GS) President and COO John Waldron, 57, is widely viewed as the likely successor to CEO David Solomon, with reports suggesting a transition as early as 2027. The bank said no definitive succession timeline exists, calling timing assertions "speculation," according to spokesperson Tony Fratto. Analysts expect minimal disruption but possible strategic tweaks. Asset and wealth management accounts for about 25% of revenues, while global banking and markets—including trading—generated record second-quarter net revenues, up 53% year over year. BofA's Ebrahim Poonawala said Waldron may address whether a "structural mix shift" toward steadier fee-based revenue is warranted. Waldron could also oversee Goldman's AI build-out. Wells Fargo's Mike Mayo said implementing "agentic AI" to boost efficiency "will be more on [Waldron's] shoulders." In early 2025, Waldron received an $80 million retention bonus and joined the board as a non-independent director.
