Indian Stocks Close Lower for Second Straight Session as Oil, FPI Selling Weigh on Sensex, Nifty
Indian equities closed lower on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as elevated oil prices and sustained foreign portfolio investor selling pressured markets for a second consecutive session. The BSE Sensex fell 242.65 points, or 0.33%, to settle at 72,529.07, recovering from an early low of 72,064.00. The NSE Nifty50 lost 64.05 points, or 0.28%, to close at 22,716.20, off its intraday low of 22,569.65. Automobile, FMCG, technology, realty and consumer durables stocks led declines, while bank shares found support off their lows. Market breadth was weak, with 2,405 stocks falling on the BSE against 1,975 gainers. Titan, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, UltraTech Cement and Reliance Industries dropped 1%-2.8%. Adani Enterprises rallied 5%, while Adani Ports gained 4.5%. India's industrial production rose 8% year-over-year in August, beating expectations of 6.5%.
