Geotab announced Thursday the launch of the Geotab Fleet Card, a telematics-integrated fuel payment tool developed with transportation payment company AtoB, as elevated diesel prices pressure trucking fleets. The card uses vehicle location and fuel-level data to authorize or decline transactions, blocking purchases if the vehicle is not at the fueling location or lacks tank capacity. Telematics-verified transactions carry a fraud guarantee of up to $250,000 for eligible accounts, provided by AtoB. The launch comes as the national average on-highway diesel price reached $6.382 per gallon for the week ending Sept. 28, 2024, roughly 70% higher than $3.754 a year earlier, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Geotab's analysis of 419,000 diesel fill-ups across 660 U.S. fleets found price differences of up to 77 cents per gallon between stations in the same town. Competitors WEX and Samsara have launched similar telematics-linked fuel-control products. The Geotab Fleet Card is available to eligible U.S. fleets.
